To kick-off Women’s History Month, we invite the Fort Worth and Tarrant County communities to Downtown Fort Worth to celebrate the 112th anniversary of the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession, in Washington, D.C.
Join us as we rally for Women’s Equity & Equality with the theme Revisiting Herstory: A Path Forward. This march seeks to raise awareness about the wage gap, inequities in maternal health, and the ongoing fight for voting rights. Together, we can champion progress and continue advocating for a more equitable future.
Our goal is to inspire women and girls to use their voices to advocate for meaningful change in the following areas:
Wage Gaps: Women are paid seventy-eight cents to the dollar compared to men, while Black women earn sixty-six cents on the dollar.
Maternal Health: Black women die at a rate of 3 to 4 times higher than their white counterparts.
Voting Rights/Advocacy: We want to ensure that all eligible citizens have equal access to participate in the democratic process through the right to vote, free from discrimination or suppression.
Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025
Start Time: 9 AM
Starting Location: Tarrant County Courthouse
100 W Weatherford Street
Fort Worth, TX 76102
On March 3, 1913, 5,000 women marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC, demanding the right to vote. Held the day before Woodrow Wilson’s presidential inauguration, this “national procession” was the first civil rights parade in the nation’s capital.
Among the marchers were the 22 founders of the newly established Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., who markeed the occasion with their first public act of service. The Deltas, along with other African American women, played a pivotal role in advancing Black political activism and laying the groundwork for future generations of women in the fight for civil rights.
